Mary Curtis Richardson (1848-1931)

Born in Clifton, England on May 16, 1827. Marianne Stone was from a wealthy family and well educated before her marriage to Julien Mathieu in 1859. The newlyweds sailed for the U.S. and continued their journey to California. After a few years in Napa, they settled in San Francisco. Although she painted portraits and landscapes, her specialty was still lives of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. She also painted 100 varieties of California’s wildflowers before her death in San Francisco on Feb. 16, 1897.
