Benigino Yamero Ruiz was born in Peru on Feb. 13, 1880. He was active in northern California by the 1890s. Ruiz appears to have been influenced by the French Barbizons. Using a dark palette, his canvases invariably are of late afternoon sunsets containing oak trees and are similar to those by Wm Keith during his late period. Ruiz used the pseudonyms F. Gonzales and Ziur Tose. He died in San Francisco on Aug. 18, 1929. Exh: Calif. Artists, Golden Gate Park, 1915. & DR.
