HYDRANGEA STILL LIFE
Born in New York City in 1946, Ronald Goldfinger now resides in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. Despite a 35 year career as a practicing physician he has never lost his passion for painting. His training in art began in childhood at private art schools and museums. He graduated from the prestigious High School of Music and Art in 1964 and went on to study Art and Biology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Goldfinger attained an M.D. Degree, graduating with honors, and began practicing medicine. During all that time Ron continued to pursue his artistic goals with studies at the renowned Art Students League in New York City and, privately, with several well-known New York City artists. Goldfinger works from life, setting up the composition in his north light studio or going outdoors to paint the landscape. He focuses on how the light sculpts the shapes, sets the mood and selects the important colors. Starting with bold brush or palette knife strokes he lays in the composition and establishes the painting’s concept. A splash of color or a highlight can provide a focal point, and the impasto gives a sense of the medium. Each stage in the creation must hold up in its own right for the final work to be successful. Goldfinger’s paintings have been exhibited in New York’s Knickerbocker Artists Club, the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey, the Springfield Art League, and the Springfield Museum of Art in Massachusetts.
